I'm going to make this post quick. I'm pretty tired and want to lay down, but if I don't post, I'll forget.
Today was John's first day at his new job. It's his first job in the Navy that doesn't involve a boat. He actually has a desk and will work in an office supporting the ships in various manners. After he left, he came back about an hour later saying that we needed to go to the housing briefing. In order to get any type of housing, we must attend a housing brief that explains EVERYTHING about on and off base housing. This took about two hours.
After that John and I selected three houses we wanted to see. This week is a holiday week in Japan, so two of the houses we picked we can't see until Friday (when the holiday ends). The other house, the agent agreed to meet us today. The house was 1400+ sqft with three stories, two balconies, 5 rooms, and a HUGE master bedroom, not to mention sweeping views of the city. The owner is supposedly really nice and the agent lives right around the corner (we give our rent to her)....the only problem is it's up a two way road that only has room for one car at a time....which means if you're going one way and someone else is coming the other way, one of you has to back up into a driveway to allow the other one to pass. We discussed this with our agent and she is going to try to negotiate a parking spot for us at the bottom of this road so we don't have to deal with it. The house is beautiful and John and I fell in love with it right away. We think it might be "the one."
In Japan, they LOVE to negotiate their housing deals. Whatever the listed price is, they are willing to negotiate down for you. They will negotiate pets and even repairs to the house. The housing office said to just ask and usually they can do it for you.
John and I have also been riding our bikes everywhere. The base is a good size and we have been getting around using bikes. This is different for us, but very cool.
I also saw Wylee today (I've been visiting him everyday since we got here) and he's okay...stressed...I want to give him his soft blankets to sleep on, but we have to clean them first. I washed his blankets in the shower today and I'm hoping that tomorrow they'll be dry so I can ask the kennel people to put it in his kennel.
Give him something that smells like you and John, like a shirt that one of you has worn recently. The smell will be a comfort to him while he is in the stressful environment.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, does the kennel have on staff veterinary care? Do they handle the costs if Wylee was to get sick? Not trying to scare you! I know that he will be fine :)
The kennel is attached to the vet's office. So if anything goes wrong, the vet is right there. I did take Wylee to the vet last Tuesday and noted my concerns (he has sores on his feet from digging at the kennel and some weight loss) and they made me an appointment for two weeks out to check on him. It makes me sad he's so stressed.... :(
