Hodgepodge

CoreFit Throwdown two weeks ago.

Triathlon swim portion three weeks ago.
Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted. If you're still checking this and reading it, congratulations and thank you for staying with me! Life hasn't necessarily been busy, but it has been life. I thought not having a job would be full of relaxation, self-reflection, and coffee on the balcony of my house every morning. Instead, I find my days filled with friends, errands, and whatever various projects I have going at the time.

Three weeks ago I attempted to participate in my first half Ironman triathlon (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13 mile run). Unfortunately, my swim time was two minutes shy of the qualifying time and I wasn't allowed to participate competitively in the rest of the triathlon. My friends and I did the 56 mile bike anyway and then skipped the run. Maybe I'll try it again one day, but for now I'm done with triathlons.

Exactly one week later, I participated in my first CrossFit competition. I hit some major milestones in my lifts and weights that day. I've been doing CrossFit for a year and everything I've been working towards really culminated in the competition that day.

In December, I'll head to Okinawa to get my Level 1 CrossFit training certificate which will put me on a path to becoming a CrossFit coach. This means I will probably look for work in the US as a CrossFit trainer. If it wasn't for living in Japan, I may have never discovered this passion.

Well, that's it here. Life is life. It keeps marching forward. We're winding down our time in Japan with only six months left. I don't know when I'll write again, maybe when we know more about our next duty station...
